Embossing

Give your design a lift by embossing your logo, initials or monogram, a simple illustration or even a pattern for a luxurious look! A gorgeous traditional method that creates tactile impact without any colour. Embossing requires two custom made plates that fit into each other to alter the surface of your paper.

Your PDF design is converted into negatives that are used to create two custom-made plates that fit together with precision. Using our vintage Heidelberg presses, a specific level of pressure is applied to squeeze the fibres of the paper resulting in a beautiful, permanently raised design (sometimes called Blind Embossing because there is no colour). It’s so hard to resist running your fingers over the results (don’t say we didn’t warn you!).

Embossing is most suitable for hero items like names, large florals or patterns for instance. It’s not recommended for small text as legibility can be an issue. Be sure to check out our Artwork Guidelines (below) for important details to consider when creating your design for embossing.

While embossing is available on a variety of stocks, we recommend using a mid-to-light paper colour so that the shadows of the embossing can help with legibility.
